Wheeling Health Right “FARMacy WV-Prescriptions for Produce” is up and running once again for the third year! We are excited to enter the 2018 growing season full force to fight chronic disease in our patient population, our community, our county, and our state. West Virginians are the sickest population in the country with the highest rate of obesity, high blood pressure, and Type II Diabetes. Our mantra is healthy FOOD IS MEDICINE, and we are walking the walk by providing our patients with the resources of fresh locally grown produce from Grow Ohio Valley and Heart Healthy nonperishable foods provided by Mountaineer Food Bank.
Patients who registered for our 2018 program in April are now receiving the healthy food that they need to help control their chronic disease. Molly Poffenbarger from the WV Extension Office is also back to help provide tasty recipes for the weekly produce selections and to educate our patients on produce preparation and nutrition.
The Grow Ohio Valley mobile market will be available for community purchases of fresh produce during the FARMacy WV pick up times also. We invite our surrounding South Wheeling community as well as all of Wheeling to take advantage of the fresh locally grown produce available on Thursdays from 9am to 1pm in the Wheeling Health Right parking lot at the bottom of 29th street.
Go FARMacy 2018!!!
